THERIOGENOLOGY TECHNICIAN OR ASSISTANT

Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and dependable Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant to support our theriogenology equine veterinary team. This full-time position is available for training starting in November and full-time mid-to-late January.  It involves direct work with horses, travel to farms, assistance in the breeding shed and mare/stallion laboratory, support during procedures and maintaining organized supplies in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and committed to maintaining a high standard of patient care and professionalism. This position plays an important role in supporting veterinarians on farm calls and during procedures while helping ensure quality care and patient safety.

Primary Duties

  • Assist with procedures, including setup and cleanup
  • Assist with advanced theriogenology procedures
  • Assist in the breeding shed
  • Assist with collecting and processing semen
  • Restock and organize supplies in veterinary vehicles
  • Maintain clean, organized veterinary vehicles, including weekly vacuuming and monthly deep cleaning
  • Drive between farm calls, assist with patient restraint and record supply use for billing as needed
  • Learn and anticipate procedural setups and support needs for veterinarians
  • Uphold bio-security and cleanliness protocols across all work environments
  • Label and submit blood work to the laboratory
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with veterinarians, clients, co-workers and vendors


Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of prior experience handling horses other than your own
  • Ability to be consistently punctual
  • Ability to lift 50-75 lbs unassisted on a consistent basis
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and walk between barns
  • Comfort working around hay, straw, cleaning products and horses
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, write and understand English
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to manage time effectively and maintain strong attention to detail


Skills Preferred

  • Equine medical terminology
  • Knowledge of equine medicine or veterinary services
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of veterinarians during farm calls and procedures
  • Strong teamwork and professionalism in a fast-paced environment


Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Monday-Friday daytime
  • Some overtime may be required
  • Some weekend shifts may be required
