AMBULATORY TECHNICIAN OR ASSISTANT FULL-TIME
Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital is seeking highly motivated and dependable Veterinary Technicians or Veterinary Assistants to support our ambulatory equine veterinary team starting mid to late January 2026. This role involves direct work with horses, traveling to farms, assisting with procedures and maintaining supply organization in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and be committed to maintaining the highest standard of patient care and professionalism. This position plays a vital role in supporting veterinarians on farm calls and during procedures, helping to ensure quality care and patient safety.
Primary Duties
• Assist with procedures, including set up and clean up
• Restock and organize supplies in vehicle
• Maintain clean, organized veterinary vehicle – vacuum weekly and deep clean monthly
• Drive between farm calls, assist with patient restraint and record supply use for billing as needed
• Learn and anticipate procedural setups and support needs for veterinarians
• Uphold bio-security and cleanliness protocols across all work environments
• Jog patients for lameness exams
• Hold plates for radiographs
• Download/upload imaging as needed
• Label and submit blood work to the lab
• Learn and assist with procedures such as plasma administration, ultrasounds, vaccinations and additional imaging diagnostics.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with veterinarians, clients, co-workers and vendors.
Requirements
• Equine Medical Terminology a plus
• Ability to be consistently punctual
• Able to lift 50-75 pounds unassisted on a consistent basis
• Able to sit/stand for extended periods and walk between barns
• At least one year of prior experience with horses other than your own
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Comfortable working around hay straw, cleaning products and horses
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to read, write, and understand English
• Must have strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Must manage time well, multitask and maintain strong attention to detail
• Knowledge of equine medicine or veterinary services is preferred but not required
Schedule
• Full-time
• Monday-Friday daytime
• Some overtime may be required
• Some weekend shifts may be required
