MEET DR. BLAINE LARSON

Dr. Larson is originally from southeastern Colorado where he grew up working on his family’s cattle ranch and competing in rodeo, wrestling and football. He attended Colorado State University on a Boettcher Foundation scholarship where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences with minors in Microbiology and Agricultural Economics.  


Dr. Larson remained at Colorado State University and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. While in veterinary school, Dr. Larson developed an interest in equine lameness and surgery and worked on multiple research projects involving equine osteoarthritis and pain management. Drawn to Lexington by the high concentration of equine athletes, Dr. Larson completed a one-year hospital internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital.  


Upon completion of the internship, Dr. Larson remained on with Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital for a three-year residency in equine surgery. His interests include orthopedic surgery, performance horse lameness and Thoroughbred sales work.


Dr. Larson lives in Lexington with his wife and former classmate, Dr. Megan Larson, who is also an equine veterinarian, their daughter Charlie, three dogs and a cat.
