Matheus Felix, DVM, is an equine embryologist and his work is limited to in vitro technologies.

Originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil, Dr. Felix grew up in a small town surrounded by waterfalls and mountains. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Federal University of Lavras, located south of his home state. Following graduation, he dedicated his early career to providing technical support in equine reproduction for small breeders in Lavras.

In 2019, Dr. Felix relocated permanently to the United States to join the Equine Embryo Laboratory at Texas A&M University under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Katrin Hinrichs. During this time, he focused on advanced in vitro reproductive techniques, chiefly intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

In 2020, Dr. Felix was invited by Dr. Hinrichs to serve as chief embryologist for the development of a research and commercial program in equine assisted reproduction at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center. The program has since gained international recognition for its research and advancements, including the development of a repeatable method for standard in vitro fertilization in horses using both fresh and frozen semen—an achievement that addressed a longstanding challenge in the field. Additionally, the team has advanced laboratory techniques designed to improve the efficiency of in vitro embryo production through clinically applied ICSI.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. Felix enjoys spending time with his dog and participating in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, rock climbing and kayaking.
