Dr. Benjamin Flakoll was born and raised in Managua, Nicaragua. He grew up riding and training horses in show jumping and classical dressage and discovered his love of veterinary medicine while assisting veterinarians from the United Sates on Rural Area Veterinary Services trips to Nicaragua. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience from Brown University, later taking a gap year before attending veterinary school. During his gap year, he attended Pacific Coast Horseshoeing School in California. He continued working as a farrier throughout veterinary school and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. 

Following graduation, Dr. Flakoll completed a rotating internship at Rhinebeck Equine and pursued further specialty training in podiatry by joining the podiatry team at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington for a two-year fellowship. 

Dr. Flakoll has now moved to Saratoga, NY with his wife, dog and two cats and is excited to join the team at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga. His main areas of interest are podiatry, dentistry and sports medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Flakoll enjoys reading, riding and blacksmithing.
