LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN – EQUINE ANESTHESIA

Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician with horse-handling experience to join our equine anesthesia team. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed technician interested in expanding their skills in anesthesia and perioperative care while working alongside an experienced veterinary team.


Previous anesthesia experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to provide hands-on training to the right licensed technician with a strong equine background, good communication skills and a desire to learn. The technician will work closely with a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist, with opportunities for hands-on learning, mentorship, continuing education and continued development of advanced anesthesia and patient-care skills.


Primary Duties

  • Prepare equine patients and equipment for anesthesia and surgery
  • Assist with induction, maintenance and recovery from anesthesia
  • Monitor anesthetized horses and operate anesthesia monitoring equipment
  • Work with anesthetic and emergency medications
  • Assist with mechanical ventilation and other advanced anesthesia equipment
  • Prepare, maintain and troubleshoot anesthesia and surgical equipment
  • Provide perioperative support and help maintain patient safety throughout procedures
  • Communicate closely with veterinarians, technicians and other members of the patient-care team
  • Participate in hands-on learning and continued development of advanced anesthesia and patient-care skills


Requirements

  • Current veterinary technician license with eligibility to obtain Kentucky licensure
  • Equine handling experience
  • Strong understanding of veterinary medical terminology and medications
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm, organized and attentive in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Ability to lift 50-75 lbs and remain standing for extended periods


Skills Preferred

  • Previous equine handling experience
  • Familiarity with anesthesia, monitoring, ventilators and surgical equipment
  • Previous equine anesthesia experience
  • Strong teamwork and commitment to exceptional patient care
  • Desire to learn, grow and pursue continuing education


Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Primarily Monday-Friday daytime with a consistent start time
  • Flexibility in end time is required because patient-care needs determine when the day ends
  • Seasonal periods may require overtime
