Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital is currently looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Equine Medicine Technician/Assistant to join our team. This role offers hands-on experience with a wide variety of patients and close collaboration with our clinicians, interns, and nursing staff. Responsibilities

• Provide Exceptional Patient Care: Safely handle and restrain horses of all ages and temperaments, from foals to racehorses and neurologic cases, during exams, diagnostics, and emergencies.
• Support Our Medicine Team: Assist clinicians and interns with outpatients, farm calls, in-hospital procedures, and emergency cases while ensuring accurate medical documentation.
• Prepare and Assist with Procedures: Set up, assist, and clean up for all patient procedures using proper aseptic technique; help with imaging, MRIs, myelograms, and other diagnostics.

• Work Hands-On with Samples: Collect and process lab samples (blood, feces, urine, CSF, etc.) for in-house and outside laboratory testing.
• Use Your Technical Skills: Place IV catheters, take diagnostic radiographs, and assist with transfusions and donor sample preparation.
• Collaborate and Communicate: Partner with clinicians, interns and nursing staff; provide coaching when needed and report patient concerns promptly.
• Keep Things Running Smoothly: Maintain inventory, order medicine-specific supplies, and ensure equipment and treatment areas are clean, stocked, and ready to go.
• Be a Go-To Team Player: Help with scheduling, client communication, and sample shipments when needed; support other departments during busy seasons.
• Support Research and Records: Assist with collecting and organizing data, images, and videos for case studies; manage medical records and imaging files using clinic software.
• Grow and Make an Impact: Step in to cover other medicine technicians as needed, and take pride in knowing your work directly supports top-quality patient care.
  
  

Schedule

• Full-time, Monday – Friday
• Day Shift
• Some overtime and weekend coverage required
  
  

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of horse handling experience (beyond personal ownership)
• License preferred, but will work with the right person, licensed veterinary technician, able to be licensed in KY &/or eligible for licensure or in the last year of an accredited program
• Ability to lift 50–75 pounds and stand for long periods of time
• Familiarity with medical terminology, equine anatomy and medications preferred
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
