The mare was evaluated as a candidate for oocyte retrieval, a specialized reproductive procedure used to collect oocytes for in vitro fertilization or other assisted reproductive techniques. This procedure requires advanced imaging, specialized equipment, and experienced reproductive specialists.

Medical or Surgical Management
Dr. Mariah Slack, a recently completed Theriogenology resident and member of the Theriogenology & Advanced Reproduction team, performed the oocyte retrieval procedure. Dr. Slack earned her DVM from Colorado State University and completed an equine ambulatory internship followed by a two-year Theriogenology Residency. Her clinical interests include reproductive medicine, neonatal care, and emergency field medicine. Collected oocytes were prepared for processing and transport for further reproductive techniques.

Outcome

The oocytes were successfully collected, marking the first step in an advanced reproductive program. Additional processing and transport steps will follow to support fertilization and embryo development.
