Veterinary Internship Hospital Opportunities for 2024-2025
Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital (RREH) currently has hospital-based veterinary internship opportunities at our Lexington, Saratoga, and Wellington practices for the 2021-2022 internship year. We would love to help you start your career!
About Us
Rood and Riddle’s veterinary internship program was established in 1986 at our Lexington facility. The Saratoga and Wellington practices started internship programs in 2013 and 2017 respectively. The Lexington practice currently offers 9 hospital and 5 ambulatory internship positions. Saratoga and Wellington offer 3 hospital internship positions at each practice. We have 4 vacancies for internships including 1 at the Lexington practice, 2 at the Saratoga practice, and 1 at the Wellington practice.
About the Internship
Each available internship is a 53-week in-hospital internship with a primary focus on surgery (upper airway, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, urogenital), lameness, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and anesthesia. At the Lexington and Saratoga practice, interns can obtain more experience in specific areas of interest due to a tailored rotation scheduled from January-May. The primary goal of each internship is to provide a strong foundation for application to a residency program or entrance into private practice. The busy caseload and number of clinicians provide diverse mentorship and a unique internship experience not available elsewhere. After-hours emergency duty is shared between specialists, and interns provide assistant surgeon, anesthesia, and technical support after-hours. All treatments, including after-hours and holidays, are performed by technicians. Outgoing interns and incoming interns are staggered to provide overlap and experience as the incoming class gets settled and trained.
Rood and Riddle is on the cutting edge of technology and is looking for candidates with an enthusiasm to learn and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing, challenging, and fun environment.
