Dr. Hisato Mizuno was born and raised in the South Bay area of California, where he developed an early passion for horses. Growing up near ranches and racetracks, he found himself as the “dedicated groom” for his older brother, fostering his connection to the equine world. His journey took a pivotal turn when his family moved to Japan, where he became captivated by the sport of horse racing, particularly after witnessing Deep Impact’s electrifying maiden race.

Dr. Mizuno graduated from the University of Tokyo in 2014 with a doctorate of veterinary medicine and began his career in Japan’s racing industry, working extensively on breeding farms and in international racing events. While assisting Japanese horses at the Dubai World Cup, he was inspired to deepen his knowledge of veterinary medicine in the United States.

After completing an internship at Oklahoma State University, Dr. Mizuno joined Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga as an intern. His professional interests include sales work, reproductive medicine, acupuncture and general equine practice.

Outside of work, Dr. Mizuno enjoys relaxing with friends and cherishing time with his wife, Maya, and their two young sons.
